Minor Surgery
We provide a full range of minor surgical procedures. These include removal of lumps and bumps, joint
injections, cryotherapy (freezing) for skin problems. Ask your doctor.
Family Planning
We offer a comprehensive service including fitting both coils and caps within normal surgery hours. Our
practice nurses will be happy to see you for ROUTINE family planning, ie pill, cap, injections and coil
checks. All methods of family planning can be discussed and well woman checks are available.
Emergency (‘Morning After’) Contraception
Despite the fact that we can supply all forms of contraception, some people still have sex without taking
precautions. Occasionally accidents can happen, such as a condom bursting. In this situation you should use
emergency contraception. This can be used up to 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex, but is more
effective the earlier it is taken. Make an appointment to see a doctor or the practice nurse in the emergency
surgery for advice.
Travel Immunisation
We offer a full range of travel vaccines for those travelling abroad on holiday or business. The practice
nurses will be pleased to advise you. Please make an appointment to see her, if possible two months before
travelling. We are unable to carry out travel consultations over the phone; you need to make an appointment.
If you are going backpacking, you should consult our nurse three months before departure date.
Yellow Fever
We are a Yellow Fever Centre and can offer this immunisation on the premises. This vaccine is not part of
the NHS service, therefore a fee will be charged.
Adult Immunisation
- Tetanus - patients should be fully immunised. Five tetanus injections in a
lifetime gives you cover for life. If you suffer a dirty wound, ring up for advice.
- Rubella (German Measles) immunisations - women thinking of starting a family
should get their immunity checked. Ask your doctor or the practice nurse.
- Flu immunisation - this is strongly recommended for those over 65 years and people
of all ages who suffer from heart, kidney or lung diseases, asthma and diabetes. It is also advisable
for those living or working in institutions or nursing homes.
- Pneumococcal vaccination - this is a once in a lifetime vaccination against
pneumonia, meningitis and septicaemia. If you are eligible for the flu immunisation, it is strongly
recommended that you have the pneumococcal vaccination also.
Health Screening/Well Woman/Well Man
The practice nurse can advise you on diet, alcohol, smoking and exercise. Your blood pressure can be
checked, and she will be pleased to discuss other health issues with you. Please make an appointment for a
fasting blood test one week before your appointment (you will need to ask the receptionist to do a blood
request form).
Cervical Screening (Smears)
This is recommended every three to five years depending on the patient's age. Patients will be notified
when their next smear is due.
